Do you think it is a good idea to name your baby "Electra"?

I am picking a name for my baby girl and my wife is set on "Electra" I want other peoples opinion of a little girl named Electra.

Do you think it is a good idea to name your baby "Electra"?
Nope, its terrible... There was a girl who interned in our office with that name and we couldn't decide if she was a stripper on the side or a superhero. How can you be taken seriously with that name. Please urge your wife not to do that to your poor baby girl.
Reply:I would not name a baby Electra. Too many weird associations. Do you know about the Oedipus complex from Hamlet and Freud? The Electra complex is the same only in reverse as far as the sexes of the people are concerned. Just a little too heavy for a real kid to deal with.

Reply:lol - everyone seems to hate it, but i think it's kind of cute. At least your baby will be individual! I would have loved to have a name like Electra. People will probably think i'm weird now...but who cares? How can you define normal?

I like the name. Yeah Electra killed her mum, but Clytemnestra deserved it for killing Electras dad. Also, its the mum that might have issues with the name, and if your wife is proposing I assume its ok!





I like the name. Its powerful with a soft edge, and sounds quite fresh and modern but it is actually ancient. I was thinking of naming a daugther this. Go for it!

Edit: What's with all the thumbs down? The kid is going to have to live with the name, so therefore the general public's opinion is helpful in determining whether or not she's going to be made fun of. And by the looks of it, if they were to give her that name, she'd be made fun of big time.
Reply:its an alright name, but it may be too trendy. If shes that attatched to it though, maby you could use it as a middle name or come up with a nickname that would tone it down a bit. Its your descision though, if you think its the right name, it probibly is the right name. the worst thing you could do was pick a name you dont like because people told you to. go with your heart! good luck on the baby =D.
