Baby name help!?

We won't find out for another few weeks what we're having (plus playing with names is always fun)


For a girl we were thinking Nevaeh, or Ayla (pronounced eye-la)


and for a boy Kaleb, or Ethan... but we could also use some help for boy names as we're not sure we 100% love either one.

I like Ayla. It is beautiful and uncommon. I personally do not like Neveah, and the fact that it is so trendy makes it less appealing to me. I have seen Ayla spelled Isla as well. Do you like Aurora, with a nickname of Rory? Aurora sounds "heavenly" and Neveah is the word heaven spelled backwards.





I like Kaleb and Ethan. Some other names you might consider are Dylan or Elliot. I especially like Elliot.

Reply:Are you sure you want to burden your child with a difficult name for to others spell like Nevaeh or one that people are going to mispronouce like Ayla? I sure wouldn't. Why pick something that will possibly annoy them for the rest of their lives?

I do like the traditional Scottish spelling of Isla, as in the actor Isla Fisher, far more than the variant Ayla. And I'd love Caleb with a C, but I think swapping out the C for a K is awkward.

Reply:For the love of all that is holy DO NOT USE NEVAEH! It is the trashiest name in the world. It screams knocked up 16 year old trailer park trash. It has no etymological background aside from the fact that is is heaven spelled backwards. Which many religious people find offensive as spelling it backwards is reversing it and the reverse or opposite of heaven is hell.





Ayla is a nice Hebrew name but I perfer the form Ayelet (eye-el-et). Another great name with this prononciation is Isla. Which I love to bits.





I like Caleb but Kaleb looks ignorant.
