I have a baby name but no nickname..?

the babies name is topanga.. but we have no nickname.. im having a baby girl and im naming her topanga.. basically because i love that name so much but no nickname can somone please give me an idea ... her full name will be topanga marie also im havin a son.. twins!!! his name will be tyler craig..

Topanga is a beautiful name, I always liked it. Don't listen to people who say it's bad because it's from a TV show... I'm sure there are lots of British girls named Hermione and nobody expects them to do magic!





As for nicknames.. pick something simple and normal, because (like with my daughter) you'll be calling her that name almost exclusively. My daughter doesn't even know yet that her name's really longer!!





I liked the suggestion Angie.. it's normal, it's easy, and she can use it in school without getting picked on. (I was thinking "Toto... what a dog!")

Reply:i never had a nickname, my name is michelle, but i hate shell/shelly and no one would ever call me that. no biggie. you dont have to have a nickname.





also, you could just see if they work some out between themselves (the twins that is). i had a friend who had an older brother named jeremiah. she couldnt say that as a child tho and could only say myna. her dad would make fun of that and say myna bird. and eventually his name became bird. thats the only name he went by in middle school and collage (and probably still because that was 10 years ago).

Reply:You don't HAVE to have a nickname... lots of kids don't have nicknames. But you can see what kind of child she turns out to be, or have a few in your head. Topie, Penny, TM, Tee whatever you can invent. (I kind of like Topie). Who knows, she might be a "Red" or something you wouldn't have thought of before.
Reply:A nickname is not given at birth, its given after people around the person get to know that person. Also a lot of people dont like nicknames, I like being called by my birth given name not a shortened verison of it.

Reply:Just wait and see when she is born. Just because you have (or in your case don't) have a nickname, doesn't mean you will use it. My daughter's name is Adrianna. I thought before she was born that Anna would be a lovely nickname. Want to know what we call her?....boogie. It just fit and our family calls her that. Her sisters used to call her Noni. Everyone else calls her by her given name. Your daughter just might not match the name you choose. Good luck and I hope everything goes well with the birth of your twins.

Reply:I have a 5 mo son and he has many nicknames, none of which come directly from his name. I call him scooby-snack and other names that came from his actions, so maybe youll come up w/ something from something she does. Good luck!

Reply:panga sounds like the simplest and most sensible nickname to me...i call my 3 yr old boo becuz she loves the movie monsters inc so much.
Reply:I would not name a baby Topanga, because that is a name from the show Boy Meets World on Disney Channel, and kids would make fun of her. They would expect her to be like the character Danielle Fishel played.
