I need help with a baby name!?

I'm having a baby boy at the begning of April. My husband and I love the name Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee), it is celtic for dance (to dance or a type of dance I'm not sure). Just about any name sounds good with it, only thing is we dont want a really common/popular name, and we dont want anything to crazy (because of Ceilidh), just something simple and easy to read since our last name is Crouch, and it is always mis-read as crotch.

Ceilidh _________ Crouch

_________ Ceilidh Crouch

Either way doesn't matter to me, I'm even open for two middle names if need be to keep the name Ceilidh.

Please, any help will be greatly appreciated. I'm so desperate I'm about to go buy any baby naming book I can find, and I really don't want to waste all of that money on books I'm only going to use for a short time and then they will be outdated.

I need help with a baby name!?
Please make Ceilidh the middle name.

My mother gave me a unique spelling to my first name and it has been mis-pronounced my entire life. Oh, and so embarrassing in the school auditoriums where they call the kids' names out loud for awards. I still remember the cringe.

No need to buy any baby name books, the web is full of baby name sites--even celtic ones.

Reply:Hi ! Congratulations on the baby ! You don't have to spend a penny on a book of first names for children: There is a free website, Babynames.com , with hundreds of names, and details on the meaning and tradition of various names: Check out this website below:

My only concern with the name of "Ceilidh", and with a pronunciation of "kay-lee" is that it is inevitable that his friends will almost certainly start calling him "Kelly" , not kay-lee . And since the name is probably almost unique in this country, it would not be understood with the Gaelic spelling, ending with "dh" .

Also, you have two names (first and last) that have a hard-"K" sound to them. OK if that is what you as parents like. Maybe a softer sounding first or middle name would be easier to use and for others to remember ?

You never said the father's name, or any family preference from either of your families for first or surnames going back to prior generations. That might be a factor.

Incidentally, the word "ceilidh" is Gaelic (with different spellings), and means a dance or party . Here is some information from Wikipedia under "ceilidh" :

"A c茅ilidh (pronounced /藞k什拾e藧l什i藧/) is the traditional Gaelic social dance in Ireland and Scotland. Other spellings encountered are ceilidh, c茅il铆 (Irish reformed spelling) and c猫ilidh (Scottish Gaelic reformed spelling). Before discos and nightclubs, there were C茅ilidhs in most town and village halls on Friday or Saturday nights and are still common today. Originally c茅ilidhs facilitated courting and prospects of marriage for young people and, although discos and nightclubs have displaced c茅ilidhs to a considerable extent, they are still an important and popular social outlet in rural parts of Ireland and Scotland, especially in the Gaelic-speaking west coast regions"

Whatever you decide, blessings and best wishes,

Reply:I think you should use this one for the middle name. No one is going to know how to pronounce it, let alone spell it. And Kaylee is associated more with females. I am also looking at boys celtic names. A google search of "baby names" comes up with a ton of sights and you can search by celtic. I found some very interesting choices that weren't so hard to decifer.
Reply:Well, While Ceilidh is a nice name... It will be mispronounced the child's entire life... That's why the middle name should be Ceilidh.

I like the Name Kadence or spelled Cadence Ceilidh Crouch... just my opinion... good luck and congrats!!
Reply:I thought "Ceilidh" was a girls' name. I know a girl named "Ceilidh"... so I don't know if you should name a boy it (maybe the parents named her wrong though, so I don't know).

good luck.
Reply:How about Ceilidh Norman Crouch or

Norman Ceilidh Crouch or

Ceilidh Sean Crouch or

Sean Ceilidh Crouch.

Reply:A good Scottish name would be Colin (pronounced Caw Lin). But you do understand that your son will go through life with no one being able to pronounce Ceilidh when they see it written. Not telling you it's not a good name. Actually it's pretty cool seeing as how I have both Scottish and Irish blood.
Reply:Ann or Anne would make a nice middle name

Personally, I'd keep Ceilidh as a middle name, just because the traditional spelling of Kaylee is so common. No one will be able to spell her name or pronounce it. Have grown up with a difficult to spell name, I would not wish that on anyone.

Congrats and good luck!
Reply:Louise. It sounds perfect with the first and last name. I hope you like it.
Reply:I think sticking with another celtic name would be very cool. This site has a ton of names... I went right to the celtic ones for you. :) Good luck and congratulations!

My suggestions are:

Ceilidh Marie or Mariah. They kind of flow, for a girl.

I don't know if I would use Ceilidh for a boy.

Reply:My vote, you should DEFINITELY make Ceilidh the middle name, because he will go through life with no one able to pronounce his name. Plus, Kaylee is normally a girl's name. Its beautiful though, so just keep it as a middle name.

Isaac Ceilidh Crouch

Connor Ceilidh Crouch

Michael Ceilidh Crouch

Darren Ceilidh Crouch

Liam Ceilidh Crouch

Samuel Ceilidh Crouch

Simon Ceilidh Crouch

Just a few tips, don't choose a name with an "E" sound at the end to go with Ceilidh, it takes away from the beauty of that name. Some people think that, for example, your child's initials being CCC is too much, but personally, I think its kind of cool.

Let me know what you pick! Good luck!
