Mexican Baby Name?

How can I explain the concept of middle names to my fiancee? He's from Mexico, and says that baby's don't get middle names, they get the mother's last name as a surname.

I don't want the baby to have my last name at all, just his as the surname. I also want to give her a middle name, its a combination of my sister's and his sisters (carmen + lisa + carisa). We agree on the first name, but it's the 2nd and last thats giving us a problem.

Is it true that there are no middle names in Mexico? How do baby names work there? And how can I convince him to do it the American way, since the baby will grow up here? Any suggestions?

Reply:Why don't you want to give your baby your last name? I don't get it. You should compromise. If your fiance wants the baby to have your last name, you should do it. In my opinion, the American way is outdated. Have your fiance take your name when you marry. More men nowadays are taking on their wives' names. I know a man that did.

When I get married, I'm keeping my name and giving my kids both mine and my husband's last name. Maybe you can give your kids both your names, with or w/o a hyphen.
Reply:My GD's mom is from Mexico and my GD's name is

Morgan Elise and she has her father's last name.

both her Aunt, Mom and Grandma are from Mexico and they all have a middle name and their father's last name.

Her Grandma from Mexico calls her

Morgana Elisa

You could use your last name as another middle name and then his last name.
Reply:That is not correct at all. They have middle name. My husband is from there and his full name is Hector Javier Rodriguez Orteg. The last names a lot of them use the moms and the dads and the grandma's maiden name.
Reply:When I lived in Californina one of my good friends was origanaly from mexico! Her and all her siblings had middle names and had her fathers last name.
